This page keeps the calculation direct: answer first, then steps, then explanation and examples.

Steps

  1. Pick one of the example inputs or enter your own values.
  2. Use Solve to generate the direct answer and the conversion steps.
  3. Copy the result or share the URL with the query string intact.

Why it works

A fraction stays equal when you divide the numerator and denominator by the same nonzero number. Using the greatest common divisor removes every common factor in one step.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting that a negative denominator should be rewritten with the negative sign in the numerator.
  • Reducing only the numerator or only the denominator.
  • Stopping before you divide by the greatest common divisor.

Worked examples

Simplify 18/24

18/24 = 3/4 because the GCD is 6.

Simplify 15/4

15/4 is already reduced, and as a mixed number it is 3 3/4.
